These Terms of Service (the "Terms") set out the conditions for using the mobile application "Romaji Drill" (the "App") provided by Robonet Communications inc. ("we", "us"). By using the App, you ("you", and for minors, together with your parent or guardian) agree to these Terms.
Article 1 (Scope)
These Terms apply to every aspect of your use of the App. The App is offered mainly to users aged 13 and over. Minors should use the App, and in particular make the one-time purchase described in Article 6, with the consent of a parent or guardian.
Article 2 (What the App is)
- The App is a free study app for practising Japanese romanisation (Kunrei-shiki, Hepburn, and keyboard input). All study features — Challenge, Practice, and the romaji chart — are free.
- The App shows a banner ad at the bottom of the screen, a full-screen ad at the end of a practice round, and rewarded video ads that you choose to watch (Article 7).
- The one-time purchase described in Article 6 permanently removes all ads.
- We may change, add to, or discontinue the App without prior notice.
Article 3 (Prohibited conduct)
You must not:
- violate any law or public order and morals;
- engage in conduct related to a criminal act;
- infringe the intellectual property, portrait, privacy, reputation, or other rights or interests of us or any third party;
- copy, modify, redistribute, or sell the question data or other content of the App beyond the scope of ordinary use;
- cause ads to be displayed by automated means, or otherwise artificially inflate ad impressions or views;
- interfere with the operation of the App;
- use the App other than as intended (including reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling); or
- do anything else we deem inappropriate.
Article 4 (Intellectual property)
Copyright and other intellectual property rights in the App, including its program, screen design, question data, and study content, belong to us or to the rightful owners.
Article 5 (Operating environment)
- The study features work without an internet connection. The question data and the romanisation rules are bundled in the App.
- Displaying ads, watching rewarded videos, and making or restoring the purchase require an internet connection. You are responsible for any data charges.
- We may specify supported environments (OS versions, devices) and are not responsible for behaviour on environments that do not meet them.
Article 6 (One-time purchase)
- Ad removal is offered as a one-time purchase (the "Purchase").
- The price is the amount shown on the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google), in accordance with each store's display rules (local currency, taxes, and so on).
- The Purchase is not an auto-renewing subscription. Once bought, there are no further charges.
- Purchase and refund procedures are governed by Apple's or Google's terms. Please direct refund enquiries to the store you purchased from.
- After the Purchase, no ads are shown in the App. There is no other difference in functionality.
- If you change devices, use "Restore purchase" in the App. You must be signed in to the same App Store / Google Play account used for the original purchase.
- To prevent a child from completing a purchase alone, please also use your device's purchase controls (Apple Screen Time, Google Play purchase authentication).
Article 7 (Rewarded video ads)
- You may choose to watch a video ad. You are never required to, and all study features remain available whether or not you watch one.
- If you watch a video ad to the end, ads are not shown for a set period (displayed in the App). This is recorded only on your device and ends when the period expires.
- If you close the video before it finishes, no ad-free period is granted.
- Depending on ad inventory and network conditions, a video ad may not be available. We do not guarantee that one can always be watched.
- Extending the period in paragraph 2 by improper means, such as changing your device's clock, is prohibited conduct under Article 3(5).
Article 8 (Suspension of the App)
- We may suspend or interrupt all or part of the App without prior notice if: system maintenance or updates are required; force majeure such as an earthquake, lightning, fire, power failure, or natural disaster makes provision difficult; computers or communication lines stop due to an accident; or we otherwise determine that provision is difficult.
- We are not liable for any disadvantage or damage suffered by you or a third party as a result of such suspension or interruption.
Article 9 (Disclaimers)
- The romanisation shown in the App is reference material for study, based on the general usage of Kunrei-shiki as taught in Japanese schools and of Hepburn as used on passports and road signs. We do not guarantee its accuracy or currency. Please also consult textbooks and primary sources.
- For official procedures — such as the spelling of a name in a passport or in official documents — the rules of the relevant authority take precedence. The App's display is not a guarantee of the correct official spelling.
- We make no express or implied warranty that the App is free of defects in fact or in law (including defects in safety, reliability, accuracy, completeness, effectiveness, fitness for a particular purpose, or security, and including errors, bugs, or infringement).
- Except in cases of our wilful misconduct or gross negligence, we are not liable for any damage arising from the App. However, where our contract with you is a consumer contract under Japan's Consumer Contract Act, this exemption does not apply; in that case, for ordinary negligence (excluding gross negligence) we are liable within the range of ordinarily foreseeable damage, and where you have made the Purchase, up to the amount of that Purchase.
Article 10 (About the ads)
- The content of the ads shown in the App is determined by Google and other ad providers; we do not select individual ads.
- Ad content is restricted to the "G" and "PG" content ratings.
- For how information is handled in connection with ads, please see the Privacy Policy.
Article 11 (Governing law and jurisdiction)
- These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
- Any dispute concerning the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the court having jurisdiction over the location of our head office as the court of first instance.
Article 12 (Changes to these Terms)
We may change these Terms without prior notice where we consider it necessary. The revised Terms take effect when posted on this page or otherwise announced by a method we consider appropriate.
